Treats From The House of Style
Backed by a celebrated tradition of creative excellence and a prestigious reputation, Hermès timepieces have proven to be consistent head-turners over the years.
The Hermès tradition of watch-making dates back to the 1920s when the company began to apply its saddle-making skills to crafting fine leather straps for timepieces that embodied the spirit of the House. Watch-making soon became integral to the business of the company, even before the silks, jewelry, and fragrance lines that the brand is so famous for today.
Hermès watches were traditionally created for the house by prestigious manufacturers outside the brand, until 1978 when it finally set up its own watch manufacturing plant in Biel, Switzerland. The new division of the famous luxury brand was called La Montre Hermès S.A.
Being located in the heart of the Swiss watch-making industry allowed the fledgling watchmaker to benefit from the expertise and spirit of the area so rich with tradition and history of horological mastery. Combined with the unique Parisian flair Hermès is famous for, the La Montre Hermès collection is even more exciting today than it was nearly 30 years ago.
In seeking to expand this fine art within the Group, the House of Hermès acquired a 25 percent stake in the Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier Company that has been developing and producing fine haute horlogerie watch movements for decades. Vaucher has been working with, among others, Montres Corum Sarl, Parmigiani and Richard Mille. This partnership between the supreme engineering capacity of Hermes and the creative designs of Hermes should yield some very exciting, beautiful, and exceptionally-built watches in the years to come.
