After re-introducing the
Romulus collection
last year, Corum follows tradition by offering strength in depth immediately
following from strength in breadth. Nevertheless, the new foudroyante
split-seconds affair is a worthy timepiece, with an unusual configuration for
the pushpieces and a locking system for them.
The two pushers control the normal
chronograph function while the crown pusher stops the split-seconds hand and
resets it. The pusher actions on the prototypes are excellent and the piece
commands suitable presence of the wrist, at 48mm. The split-seconds mechanism is
an exclusive for Corum, by La Joux Perret. The Leap Seconds 48 is water
resistant to 100 meters and is cased in titanium.
The Challenge 44 Split-Seconds, by way of
contrast, is in a precious material, 18kt red gold, and is water resistant to 50
meters. The case is in the distinctive 12-sided shape here while the Leap
Seconds 48 differs significantly, perhaps due to the difficulty of working with
titanium.
Still within the Admiral’s Cup collection, Corum
introduces the Competition 40 exclusively for women. This 40mm watch shows off
Corum’s feminine side with mother of pearl dial and styling, aside from 0.94
carats of diamonds on the bezel of course. Under the dial, this is a
COSC-certified movement and shows hours, minutes and seconds. Water resistance
varies from 50 meters (red gold) to 100 meters (steel).
