The intense
relationship between luxury yachts and luxury watches continues to follow an
exciting course, with Parmigiani of Fleurier throwing its hat into the ring as
well.
The announcement of the partnership between the Fleurier-based brand and
boat-builder Pershing was made prior to the Salon International de la Haute
Horlogerie this year but the new models of the partnership collection were kept
under wraps till the fair itself.
Last year, Parmigiani made a long-delayed
entrance into the arena of sports watches with the Kalpagraph and caliber PF
334, the brand’s first in-house chronograph movement.
The Pershing collection
this year comes with intrinsic luxury sports value in its 200 meter water
resistance, unidirectional bezel and rubber-meets-precious-metals elements.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the watch are the chronograph pushers
– in rubber – that are built into the extended lugs. The caseback features an
engraving of the 115-foot yacht from Pershing, unfortunately keeping caliber PF
190 from sight.
While there is a
temptation to link the development of the PF 334 with the Pershing collection
chronographs, which use caliber PF 190, there is no direct link established as
yet. Leaving aside the movement, the aesthetics of the watch are impressive.
It
must be said though that this is not in the same vein as the transversal
movement Bugatti watch created by Parmigiani. Indeed, that watch will go down
in the history of mechanical watches for its unique qualities.
